SHABBAT CLUB HEBREW CLASS

Hebrew Reading & Language Program

The Shabbat Club After School Program offers a second day of the week for Jewish engagement and learning.

This after school enrichment class is dedicated to Hebrew Reading & Language.

The Hebrew Reading & Language Curriculum follows a popular color coded Aleph Champ system where the children systematically learn to read Hebrew, going up in levels until they graduate the ‘’black level’’. There are a total of 10 levels to achieve reading fluency, modeled after the art of Karate.  For more information on the approach, see https://alephchamp.com/about/

When children have completed all 10 levels, Hebrew language and text based study will be introduced.

Q&A

What age are the Hebrew Lessons geared for?

For children in Kindergarden - 5th grade.

When will the lessons this take place?

On Tuesday afternoons from 4:30 - 5:15 PM, beginning Sept. 17, 2024

Why such a short lesson?

Children cannot spend more than 45 minutes practicing to read and we want to keep the lesson short and exciting.

Hmm… It’s a little hard to drop off my child for just a 45 minute lesson. Any ideas?

We understand. Our lessons take place outdoors in the parklet, and the large airy preschool room which is adjacent to the parklet is open for parents and younger siblings. The preschool room has toys, tea and coffee, and WIFI that parents can use.

What is the cost?

There are 31 classes during the 2024/25 school year. We offer a sliding scale of $12 ($372 for the year) - $15 per class ($465 for the year). $12 reflects the subsidized cost, and $15 reflects the true cost of the class.

I have one child who has already studied Hebrew, and one that hasn't. How do the different levels work?

The beauty of the Aleph Champ program is that you can have many children learning in the same classroom, but all on their own individual levels. The levels are divided not by age, but by ability. Some children progress faster and move up in levels faster, and some take a little longer to move up in level, each child learns at their own pace.

Nov. 5, 12, 19
Dec. 3, 10, 17
Jan. 7, 14, 21, 28
